James Macintyre acquires The Washington Works in Burslem, Staffordshire. He produces all kinds of pottery for homes and for factories, and goes into partnership with his son-in-law, William Woodall
William Woodall, future MP, registers the company and hires William Moorcroft as an art pottery designer. Unusually for the time, Moorcroft gains a following and signs all his pieces under his own name.
Moorcroft, with the backing of Liberty’s of London, sets up his own factory. James Macintyre & Co continues to make pottery for industry well into the 20th Century.
The original company name is re-registered as a nod to the heritage of British art ceramics of the 19th Century. The new James Macintyre & Co. carries on the tradition of selling handcrafted ceramics from the potteries of Stoke-on-Trent alongside art and glassware, from its base in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales.

We are proud to stock original works by the following artists and studios:
We also have a range of other handcrafted items for sale such as KWO Smokers, and limited edition Steiff.
